It may only seem like five minutes since the children were on their Easter holidays, but the last 7 weeks have flown by and we now have a half term holiday looming before us. But this holiday is different. After what feels like a very long winter in lockdown, the restrictions are easing and we can explore the beautiful area we live, and spend valuable time with our friends and family, and have some fun! Here at Beyond Breakout, fun is our middle name (not really, but you get the gist!) so we thought we would compile a list of 10 things you could do with your family this half term.... 1. Walks around Newtown Newtown is surrounded by beautiful countryside on the banks of the River Severn, and what better way to explore the area, than exploring it on foot. As well as walking being good for you, you can make it a lovely day out by taking a picnic with you. On the Walking and Newtown website, they have a variety of walks to suit all ages and abilities with a detailed map of each route. 2. Visit a Beach We are very lucky here in Mid Wales, as we are not far away from some beautiful beaches. Head down to Aberdyfi Beach in North Wales, a huge beach that stretches out for over 3 miles with golden sand and bright blue waters. Ynyslas Beach is 3 miles of golden beach stretching from Borth in the South to the sand dunes in the North (and the most expensive thing you will get to buy there, is an ice cream!) Aberystwyth the promenade runs along two separate beaches which are divided by Aberystwyth Castle, and has a pier and a cliff railway. 3.Beyond Breakout
We've been very restrained and waited until number 3 until we've mentioned ourselves! Honestly though is there anything more fabulous in Newtown?Come and make some amazing memories while you play our Adventures in Puzzleland game where you will solve puzzles to find and retrieve the White Queen's crown within 60 minutes. A game for 2-6 players and lots of fun for all the family. 4. Wood Chuckers Go and release your inner Viking, by throwing axes like a Viking. (Also a great way to de-stress!) Based in Llanidloes, lots of fun for all ages 5. Bryntail Mine Bryntail Lead mine is a disused lead mine sitting in the shadow of the dam at the southern end of Llyn Clywedog Reservoir. Bryntail’s buildings illuminate a time when this tranquil spot was a bustling site of industry. 6. Pooh Sticks Find yourself a bridge over a river (like the footbridge at Parc Dolerw in Newtown). Collect some sticks of different sizes, choose a stick, count to 3 and drop your stick into the river and wait to see whose stick comes out the other side of the bridge first. Simple but rather hypnotic. 7. Visit a Castle You could visit Powis Castle in Welshpool, which is a beautiful example of a medieval castle owned by the National Trust. If ruins are more your thing, explore the remains of a castle with stunning views, there are Montgomery or Dolforwyn castles to explore. 8.Visit a Play Park Luckily in Newtown we have a fabulous new play park it's open and caters for 3 age groups in 3 separate but connected spaces. There is also an excellent Pump Track . The blue line mountain bike trail is a hardcore circular route running 1 mile around Trehafren Hill. There is a BMX Pump Track has a tarmac surface, suitable for bikes, scooters, skateboards and roller boots / blades. The mountain bike trail has a number of challenging drops, jumps and berms, suitable for beginners and the novice rider. 9. Slime Challenge All children love slime (so does Lorna if she's really honest!) See if you can get in the Guinness Book of Records, and see how far you can stretch your slime in 30 seconds ! The current record is 7 feet 4 inches in 3 seconds. Good luck!! Make & Break: Super Slime | Guinness World Records We would love to see pictures You can always tag us #BeyondBreakout 10. Now that we have got you hooked to escape rooms, did you know we have another escape room too? Come and play The Mask, (don't worry, it has absolutely nothing to do Covid!) where your mission is to solve the puzzles, find the Inca Emperor's burial tomb, and retrieve the precious sun god's mask, in just 1 hour. If you have made it through the list and reached here, well done!
We hope some of our suggestions have inspired you, and whatever you decide to do this half term, enjoy spending time with your loved ones and make some fabulous memories.
